Glasgow Prestwick Airport have an exciting opportunity for Trainee Firefighters to join our team, the roles are permanent, 42 hours per week, Monday to Sunday on a rotational shift pattern.

Job Scope:

To deliver operational Airport Fire Service and routine station duties as described below within the allocated watch on a shift by shift basis.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operational duties and fire-fighting response in line with competence training and qualification
  • Completion of all tasks as required by senior officer(s) in a professional, efficient and effective manner.
  • To ensure an efficient approach to all operational incidents and Fire Service related issues.
  • Carry out the role of fire fighter at incidents/accidents and all other aspects of the roll as per qualification training syllabus and CAP699 role map
  • If requested and where appropriate qualification is held, to temporarily act as Crew Commander and assume specific responsibilities on his/her behalf where required.
  • Respond as part of response compliment to emergency calls including aircraft emergency calls, first aid and domestic calls airside.
  • Maintain readiness for an efficient response to emergencies.
  • Driving and operating all Fire Service vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintenance and testing of fire service equipment at intervals as prescribed in relevant departmental instructions.
  • Reporting of test and inspection results utilising appropriate electronic or paper based mechanism and rectification where appropriate of failures or performance deterioration in line with station procedures.
  • Maintenance of PPE and ensuring all uniform issue is kept clean and in good repair.
  • Undertaking training and re-qualification to maintain competence as required by the company standard or regulatory requirements.
  • Routine housekeeping of Station facilities / assisting with station maintenance and upgrades.
  • Comply with company policies and Station procedures.
  • Provide operational cover for other fire fighters as and when required.
  • Act as Watchroom attendant and implement emergency procedures in the event of an emergency call.
  • Achieving and maintaining a high standard of operational competence at all times.
  • To perform any other reasonable duty as defined by the company.
  • Maintain personal fitness levels in line with company policy and regulatory requirements including proportional weight to height. (body mass index)
  • Carry out extraneous duties as required in line with Station procedures
  • As frequently as required and where necessary as part of daily duties carry out various aircraft servicing duties to assist in the turnaround of aircraft as part of the Prestwick Handling team in line with station procedures and policies laid down in the extraneous duties analysis.

Requirements:

  • Aged 18+
  • You will need to demonstrate a good standard of English and Maths
  • Full Driving Licence (you must not have any more than 3 points on your driving license by the time the job offer is mad
  • Ability to obtain a full Airside driving licence (Red Pass). *

 *In accordance with regulations, this role requires you to meet DVLA Group 2 medical standards so that you can drive on our airfield (including on runways / taxiways). Therefore, please only apply for this role if you can meet the following standards:

  • Vision – applicants must have a visual acuity (using corrective lenses if necessary) of at least 6/7.5 in the better eye and 6/60 in the other. Visual fields will be checked by confrontation method and if there is any doubt then an optician report is required.
  • Colour perception – applicants are required to distinguish the colours red, green, and white using the Ishihara test plates (24) – 15 plates, presented in a random order, which must be identified without error or via an approved advanced colour vision test. The use of colour correcting lenses are not acceptable.
  • Hearing – applicants must have the ability to hear a forced whisper in either ear at a distance of 2 metres. In case of doubt an audiometric examination will be necessary.
  • General Health – applicants must disclose any medical condition, which might affect the ability to operate / drive safely. On disclosure of a medical condition which may affect the ability to operate / drive safely, reference is made to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) “Assessing-fitness-to-drive-a-guide-for-medical-professionals.”
