Safety and Health – Tenant Responsibilities
We all have a responsibility to ensure that we operate in a safe manner. The information contained in the following sections is provided to ensure that you are aware of your responsibilities as a tenant of the airport. Please ensure that you refer to your lease for full details of your obligations with regards to your accommodation.

Legislation
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 is the primary piece of legislation covering occupational health and safety in the United Kingdom. For employers there is a legal responsibility to assess the risks posed to staff and other people such as, customers and members of the public in order to protect the health and safety of those individuals.
Tenant Responsibilities
If you are an employer you are responsible for H&S within your organisation/accommodation. The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 details an employer’s requirements in order to ensure compliance with this legislation.

Inspection of the Workplace
Legislation
Health and safety legislation requires all working environments to be assessed to identify potential hazards. As a tenant of the airport it is your responsibility to ensure that your workplace is safe.
Tenant responsibility
As a tenant of the airport we require you to complete periodic inspections of your accommodation to ensure that your working environment is safe.

Risk Assessments
Legislation
Health and safety legislation requires employers to assess all tasks undertaken to identify potential risks.
Tenant responsibility
As a tenant of the airport it is your responsibility to ensure that risk assessments are carried out for all the work you undertake. It is also your responsibility to document and retain these risk assessments. Furthermore it is important that you share the information contained in the risk assessments with anyone that the findings deem to be at risk.

Accident Reporting
Legislation
RIDDOR is the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulation 1995. Employers, self-employed and those in control of premises must report specified workplace incidents.
Tenant responsibility
As a tenant of the airport it is your responsibility to ensure that the legislation regarding all accident reporting is being adhered to. It is also your responsibility to document and contact the relevant authorities and airport personnel should an incident occur.
It is essential that all RIDDOR reportable incidents are reported to the property team without delay.

Fire Safety
Legislation
To comply with the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 Part 3; the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006; the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 it is essential that all employers based at Glasgow Prestwick Airport including airlines, handling agents, tenants, control authorities, business partners, contractors and any other organisations who visit or work in the terminal or associated buildings, are made fully aware of the requirements and procedures contained in the Airport Fire Plan. The airport fire plan also covers where the assembly points are and general fire safety – this can be issued to you on request via the airport property team.
Tenant responsibilities
As a tenant of the airport it is your responsibility to ensure that the legislation regarding fire safety is being adhered to. It is also your responsibility to document and retain fire risk assessments for the premises that you occupy. Furthermore it is important that you share the information contained in the risk assessments with anyone that the findings deem to be at risk. We would also ask that all tenants and visitors adhere to the airports smoking policy and smoke only in Designated Smoking Areas.

Electrical Safety
Legislation
Under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, employers are responsible for ensuring the safety and health of their employees and also the public, this includes electrical safety.
Tenant responsibilities
As a tenant, it is your responsibility to ensure that all electrical equipment and systems within your accommodation are regularly tested by a qualified person and safe.
Our airport policy requires tenants to carry out portable appliance testing (PAT testing) every 2 years. However, all new appliances should be tested before use and we also recommend that visual inspections are carried out on a more regular basis to identify damaged or faulty appliances.
As an employer not only is this important in order to keep your employees safe but additionally, electrical safety is a key part of our fire safety management systems at the airport.

Asbestos management
Legislation
Under The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006, “duty holders” are required to assess the risk, and, so far as is reasonably practicable, to reduce the exposure of anyone to asbestos fibres.
Tenant responsibilities
Asbestos is still a hazard in the workplace and it is your responsibility as a tenant to identify asbestos and assess the risk within your accommodation. As a tenant it is also your responsibility to ensure that this information is provided to all employees/contractors etc. who may be at risk.
If you wish to carry out a survey of your area, you are free to do so.

Prestwick Airport Limited holds records of all known asbestos locations at the Airport. These areas are monitored by our Project Team who holds the main Asbestos Register. Should you wish to access these records specific to any alterations etc which you are planning then our property team can facilitate this request on your behalf.

Contingency planning
Whilst there is no legal obligation to have Business Contingency Plans in place it is beneficial for you a tenant to identify how you can continue to trade following an incident which has caused disruption to your operation.
The airport works closely with local agencies to ensure that it has in place plans to deal with various potential incidents which may disrupt the business. On this basis we will interact with you as the tenant on an as and when required basis to involve you where appropriate in our plans.

Legionella Policy
The objective of the legionella policy is to control, prevent and minimize the risk from Legionella bacteria to the public, staff and contractors so far as reasonably practicable by designing, operating and maintaining plant and equipment in accordance with the Approved Code of Practice and guidance on regulation L8 (fourth edition) Published 2013, Legionnaires’ disease: Technical guidance Part 2 The Control of legionella bacteria in hot and cold water systems (HSG274 Part 2 Published in 2014) and Legionnaires’ disease: Technical guidance Part 3: The control of legionella bacteria in other risk systems (HSG274 Part 3 Published 2014)

Alcohol and drugs policy
Airport Policy
The Airport policy states that no person under the influence of alcohol or drugs is permitted to carry out any work on the airport.
As a tenant it is your responsibility to ensure that your employees/co-workers are aware of this policy and to adhere to and report incidents where necessary.
